The basics
Minecraft Dungeons II is a top-down action RPG and the direct sequel to Minecraft Dungeons, the 2020 dungeon crawler spin-off of Minecraft. It is developed by Mojang Studios together with Double Eleven and published by Xbox Game Studios, and it launched on September 29, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC (Steam and the Xbox app), with cloud gaming support.
The Standard Edition costs $29.99 USD and the Deluxe Edition is $49.99. The game is also included with Game Pass on day one, so subscribers on Xbox and PC can play it as part of their membership. If you want the full breakdown of editions and pre-order bonuses, see our editions and price guide.

The story so far
The premise is bigger than the first game. Disorder is brewing in biomes across the Overworld: mobs are restless, strange rifts are opening, and a new evil is threatening “not one, but two worlds,” according to the official announcement. Screenshots and trailers show glowing blue, spectral versions of familiar mobs appearing at night — a corruption that seems tied to the game’s new dimension, The Sift.
The game’s official reveal trailer is a good primer on the tone Mojang is going for — darker than the original, but still unmistakably blocky:

What is new compared to the original
Dungeons II is not an expansion-style retread. Four structural changes stand out:
- A connected world instead of mission select. The original sent you into discrete missions from a camp menu. The sequel uses a contiguous, interconnected Overworld map with dungeons placed inside it — you travel through regions like the Frozen Highlands or the Deep Dark rather than picking levels from a list.
- No classes — gear decides your build. Instead of picking a class, you build your hero from equipment: a melee weapon, a ranged weapon, three artifact slots for active abilities, four armor slots, and three talisman slots for passive effects. Our gear and build system guide explains how the pieces fit together.
- You can jump. Small on paper, big for a game whose predecessor had no jump button. Platforming, chases and arena navigation all change.
- A new dimension: The Sift. Formally revealed in the August 20, 2026 gameplay trailer, The Sift is tied to the rifts opening across the Overworld. We track everything confirmed so far in our Sift dimension explainer.
There are also upgraded dynamic lighting effects — torchlight and sculk-style bioluminescence — which you can see in the night screenshots throughout this wiki.
Co-op at launch
Like the original, the game is built around drop-in co-op: solo play or up to four players, in couch co-op, online co-op, or a mix of both, with cross-platform multiplayer supported. Console players need their platform’s online subscription for online play. Details, including how mixed co-op works, are in our co-op and crossplay guide.
Is it suitable for kids?
The ESRB rates the game E10+ (Everyone 10+) for Fantasy Violence and In-Game Purchases. It is a combat game, but there is no gore, and this wiki keeps its guides family-friendly as well.
